Honda vtx 1300 hp.
As I understand it, the pair valve is something Honda put on the bike because of the emmissions laws (something about diluting the exhaust gas). It allows more air into the bike than you really need/want, and is not good for getting the bike running well. Also the VTX air fuel mixture is set "lean" by the factory, so that doesn't help either.
The spring-loaded chain adjusters are good as far as they go but if you had 65K on the 1300 when the problem went down then the adjuster had probably reached end of travel and the chain was loose.
