For the seventh year in a row, to no one's surprise, family medicine and other primary care fields were requested over all others.Therefore recent anesthesia graduates typically have a higher salary close to $50k more than pain jobs because they don't need time to grow their practice and therefore overall revenue. There are anesthesia job with and without call. Call usually pays between $1-1.5k in most places in addition to the higher salary.As far as Anesthesiology vs. EM, I would say EM has better "lifestyle" b/c they work less hours (probably an average of 35 vs. an average of 50 or so) and they are never on call (barring mass casualty or you have to cover for a sick co-worker). NO CALL for EM. and you only work like half the month for full time pay.

There aren’t many requirements (I think maybe a rotation in EM, plus some peds and IM exposure it’s very vague). Before at least USMDs could safely match anesthesiology, radiology, general surgery (to a lesser extent). Seems like that’s changing. Maybe anesthesia was easy to get in, but Surgery and radiology have been pretty competitive the past few years. Surgery match rates for USMDs have always hovered in the low-mid 80s.
