My 2009 xB started to have this problem about 4 days ago. There's been a delay in gear shifting from 2nd to 3rd. VSC Off and check engine lights are on. If you have, then it's a good idea to disconnect the battery negative, wait a minute or so, and then reconnect to force the ECU to relearn the engine behavior. Any changes (intake, etc) result in a relearn situation.

The other day I changed the oil in my 2008 Scion xB, and after I reset the Maintenence Required warning light, the speedometer switched from reading in Miles/H to Km/H.

And that is an issue. #1 suspect if you hear the belt squeal when you turn the AC on is a loose belt. If you turn the Defrost on, it turns the AC on to help get rid of the moisture.
