It's a lot easier to avoid taking damage when not meleeing. While ranged would be really really bad in regular TOB, the entry mode version of Verzik has such low defences that ranging is absolutely fine. Also feel free to skimp on your mage switches. An entry mode TOB would allow solo players to complete the diaries and get completion cape while gaining experience with the newly updated TOB mechanics as well. I would suggest that there is 0 chance for purples (or rewards at all) while doing this version to not interfere with the already balanced rewards system.
True, you just have to go in with the right mindset, doing all the things you would do in normal TOB even if they aren't necessary in story mode (freezing the nylos at maiden, staying on the other side of bloat, praying correctly at sotetseg, etc.). TOB has all the least-fun mechanics I can imagine in a raid. I leeched an entry mode for the quest cape and absolutely never intend to go back. I understand all the fights (I have an autistic knowledge about most things in this game), I just do not like them. From someone who has carried 5 people Entry mode: Yes the raid is scaled up a notch. However, you don't need any gear upgrades for duoing entry mode. I've done carrying just fine with Tentacle whip, Karils, and Fury. THE ONLY THING to note in duos is to stand on the other sides of Verzik p2.

The latest reward increase from 15% to 20% is barely noticeable and I haven't heard of anyone doing Entry Mode ToB for the drops.
