It goes like this, the battery has sufficient charge to energize the starter solenoid, but once the solenoid contacts close and power is supplied to the motor, voltage to the solenoid drops and the contacts open, removing power to the motor.2001 Kawasaki vulcan 800. If the engine has problems between 1/4 and 3/4 throttle, the jet needle and needle jet (most likely the jet needle) is likely the problem. If the engine is running poorly at 3/4 to full throttle, the main jet is the likely problem. I took it off and tested it with a drill and everything forward of the rear wheel seems to be in good working order. I'm looking out at partzilla at the rear hub's diagram but can't make heads or tails of anything there. Leave about a 1/3 of the chrome cover uncut. Some of us have discovered that the stock air box lets in too much air when the cover is cut all the way around. At high speeds it will cause a lean mixture and begin to surge.
