I found the ultimate solution for me. It's made by Ride88 and they just made a Rivian specific kit. This thing is awesome. I didn't want a tailgate pad because I didn't want to risk scratching or denting my tailgate and didn't want to mess around with straps. Fitting the straps through this assembly might be a bit problematic: workable, but problematic. Thus the moving pad. And perhaps because of the thickness of the tailgate, the bikes were very stable.
