The 1301 and is lighter but feels more like a plastic gun. It shoots well and fast, although not noticeably faster unless you are pushing it to the max. The M4 feels more solid and feels better made. Head to head for a long term gun I would take the M4. The M4 feels stronger and robust.

M3 is just cool. 1301 no issues. 940 pro is cool because it is 24 inch so you can shoot clays most places and has the most adjustable stock. Some people say the 1301 shoots softer than the M4 but I did not find this to be true. With defensive loads (buck shot, slugs etc), the M4 felt noticeably softer. I did notice the M4 feels like it has a heavier buffer spring compared to the 1301. I suspect this is the reason the M4 doesn't always cycle soft loads or cheap birdshot as well.The M4 is better in nearly every metric. The only downside being the lesser capacity due to import restrictions and the extra pound of weight. It cycles smoother, shoots softer, and has a superior operating system. The M4 is more of an iconic battle proven shotgun but really only has a self defense role in my eyes. The 1301 comp pro can do everything, sporting clays, general range fun and is light and nimble enough to play a self defense role if need be. Both will serve you well but the 1301 comp pro is the best do it all shotgun from my experience.
