Scout is my favorite starting class, too, for all the reasons you listed. In terms of feats, I think I read that a level 5 soldier gets one more feat than a level 5 scout (which is usually where I start holding levels before I become a Jedi). But the scout gets better skills, two implant feats, and uncanny dodge.
