Not his fault just things happen. (I told him he was probably driving to slow) Anyway I purchased a Chevrolet 2500 4x4 at farm auction. Had new crate engine with rv cam, I was told. Engine now has approx 30000 miles and started missing when driving. Checked and installed new vacuum hoses and sensors on 350 tbi really no change in way it run.

Done just as you envisioned, adjust for alignment and tack back together and removed and then final welding.
